Flakes address exactly three problems with distributing Nix-based software projects: hermetic evaluation, managing dependencies on remote sources, and a standard interface for consumers. All this primarily benefits very new users, enabling them to tap into the power of Nix without touching expressions.
This talk aims to put things in perspective and manage expectations around flakes, trace back how we got into what still continues to be a controversy, and discuss tools we have at hand to keep moving forward, together.
