Wearable NixOS with the Nix Badge
I've wanted to put NixOS on a hackable hardware badge for a while, and finally did it... not just once, but twice! We managed to dual-boot NixOS in two separate architectures (aarch64 and riscv64) on the Nix Badge for a speaker gift for Nix Vegas attendees. Along the way, I created some of the first hardware built fully with Nix, for NixOS. Through PCB routing, supply chain, and software builds, relive the trials and tribulations of making NixOS and our badge hardware work with each other for Nix Vegas at DEF CON... and now NixCon.
I am an embedded security engineer for Viasat, member of the SoCal NixOS User Group, and one of the organizers of Nix Vegas. I now work on embedded security with Nix for a living, and may have read Ken Thompson's Reflections on Trusting Trust one too many times.
